In Reaching/Uniting/Becoming
Free, we see an early instance of the graphic, impactful, and fluid style
that would characterize series like The Birth Project and PowerPlay. There
is a sense of feminist potential—that in art women can strive for professional
recognition, find community, and liberate themselves. It is an image that is
both abstract and irrevocably related to the specificities of (women’s) bodies.
