During the summer of 2019, Chicago collaborated with Master Printer
Valpuri Remling at well-known Tamarind Institute. The resulting eleven-color
lithograph brings attention to species facing impending extinction, which, for
Chicago, is also a feminist venture. In Praise of Prairie Dogs pays
tribute to the North American prairie dog, which is experiencing a sharp
population decline and is currently listed as an endangered species. Chicago
renders a pair of prairie dogs as they actually greet each other, in a kind of
toothy kiss, not unlike the erotic, emotional pairings found elsewhere in her
work.
