The horizontality of Birth Trinity, as with other prints in The Birth Project and PowerPlay, recalls the epic scale of murals or friezes, thus elevating the previously erased image of birth to the status of myth or monument. The tripartite body in this print exists in a state of chromatic entwinement, suggesting the connectivity experienced by women in the childbearing process throughout history. It is no mistake that Viki D. Thompson Wylder writes of the timeliness of this work: “In the United States, reproductive rights are under threat of termination legislatively and through court action. The 2016 presidential election revealed acceptance of demeaning attitudes toward women and their bodies after a candidate bragged about his proclivity for illegal sexual groping of women and yet was elected.”
