Goddess imagery was a mainstay of second wave feminism not as a way to elevate the feminine divine and matriarchal cultures, but also as a metaphor for the collective power and life-giving energy of women. In Guided by the Goddess, a series of anguished women, connected once again by Chicago’s vibrating colors and lines, find strength in the light/fluid emanating from the goddess’s breasts. This was a technical feat, requiring multiple printing methods in order to achieve the texture and high relief that Chicago required.
